A Safe Distance from Oblivion - 2011 Philly Fringe
An unlikely outdoor venue is transformed into the perfect setting for this unorthodox satire on class warfare. A Safe Distance from Oblivion makes its debut - its first ever production - at this year's Philly Fringe, running September 2 through September 17 at Emerald Park in East Kensington, a mere 1 blocks from York-Dauphin SEPTA Station. Two individuals meet at a diner after work to continue an ongoing conversation. One is a successful and wealthy hedge fund manager who is a bit of a pig. The other is a day laborer who works many odd jobs to make ends meet. He is an ass. Literally.
A Safe Distance from Oblivion will explore the synergy between two characters, each representing differing frames-of-mind within our current global population: high risk for high payoff and its underdog counterpart honest work for honest labor. These extremes will play themselves out, show their true colors, go head to head, in a seamless spiral. An inspired, over-the-top treatment involving a diner, physical gags, and harsh realities, A Safe Distance from Oblivion will motivate audiences to laugh and shake, murmur and nod, holler and cringe.
